How Royal Phuket Marina Works

Royal Phuket Marina sits within an inland marina basin in Koh Kaew on Phuket’s east coast. Boats reach the marina through a dredged approach channel connecting the basin with the waters east of the island.

The marina currently provides 100 wet berths for vessels up to 35 metres in length. Following completion of its inner-channel dredging programme, Royal Phuket Marina states that vessels up to this size can enter and leave around the clock rather than planning movements around restricted access periods.

That distinction is useful when understanding the marina: 24/7 marine access refers to vessel movement through the marina and channel. It does not mean that every office, restaurant or service business within the complex operates 24 hours a day.

Berthing, Storage and Marine Services

Wet berthing is only one part of the operation. Royal Phuket Marina also provides hardstand facilities and covered dry-stack storage, allowing boats to be kept ashore when required.

The hardstand can accommodate up to 26 vessels and is supported by a 50-ton travel lift. On-site services include a fuel dock, water and electricity supply, lifting and wash-down facilities, yacht repair and maintenance contractors, storage and security.

For smaller vessels, the covered dry stack provides another storage option, with the marina currently accepting boats up to 12 metres and five tonnes within that facility.

More Than a Berthing Facility

Royal Phuket Marina also functions as a waterfront commercial and social setting. A boardwalk runs around part of the marina and brings restaurants, bars and event spaces into the same environment as the working marina.

This creates a clear separation between the marina’s technical role and its public-facing areas. Boat owners may be using berthing, storage and maintenance services, while other visitors can arrive for dining, meetings or events without using the marine facilities themselves.

For a first-time visitor, understanding that mixed use is helpful. Royal Phuket Marina is not simply a pier or departure point; it is a marina complex with marine operations, commercial spaces and waterfront public areas sharing one site.
